Poem: "chop wood, carry water"

This poem was written outside the regular prompt calls. It has been sponsored by [personal profile] kengr. It belongs to the Origami Mage series.

"chop wood, carry water"

the road is dusty,
the little cabin empty
beside the crossroads
offering a place to stay
and rest on the long journey

origami mage
chops wood and carries water
there is no one else
here to do what needs doing,
the chores and enlightenment

when she is alone
her thoughts are calm as water,
her mind smooth as wood
she can forget her rival
and persistent bitterness

she folds bodhi trees
from pieces of green paper
then sees them take root
unfurling leaves and branches
reaching for the distant clouds

slowly she learns to
carry her peace within her
however troubled
the world around her becomes
lesson following lesson

it is enough now
to travel from here to there
finding work and faith
along the way like flowers
after unexpected rain
