Poem: "Say Words of Healing"

This poem was written outside the regular prompt calls. It fills the "Shahana and Ari" square in my 5-1-16 card for the Finish It Bingo fest and the "healing" square in my 6-1-16 card for the Cottoncandy Bingo fest. It has been sponsored by [personal profile] daisiesrockalot. This poem belongs to the series Path of the Paladins.

"Say Words of Healing"

Ari was learning that
what she liked best about
being a novice was healing --

not just mending the body,
but soothing the spirit.

When they came to a village,
Shahana and Ari would ask
if anyone was ill or injured
and what needed repairs.

They would offer peace
to the peasants there.
They would bring smiles
to the tired faces.

They would say words of
healing, and lay on hands
to give the grace of Gailah.

The world was still in ruins,
and they could not fix all of it,
but they could certainly patch up
one person at a time, one well,
one roof, one cattle fence.

Behind them, stretching all along
the road of their days, there lay

a trail of what they had healed.

"Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone's face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come."
-- Henri Nouwen
