Magic Wall

You may recall that my_partner_doug is a magician.  He's been working on a gallery wall of his magic posters, and today he hung them up.  I think it looks awesome, and it's challenging due to the mix of different sizes and colors.  \o/  Top center is a promotional poster from our friend Andy Dallas.  Below that is the guestlist poster from the IBM/SAM Convention in Louisville last month.  Center left is from a Christmas show in Pigeon Forge that we attended.  Center right is a Jeff McBride poster from Magifest. I forget the two black-and-whites, as those weren't from something I attended.  This gallery wall is in Doug's upstairs office on the west wall to the left of the computer desk, and the magic desk is just to the left of the gallery wall where it turns a corner to become the south wall.

This is the magic wall that my partner put together.

Those two black-and-whites

The two black-and-white images at the diagonally opposite corners are of illusionist/author David Seebach and his wife/stage partner Lisa, acquired and signed after a Halloween-themed show at the historic Modjeska Theatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, either in 1992 or 1993 - a year or two before I became ysabet's my_partner_doug.

While Mr. Seebach has never attained the name recognition of David Copperfield, Lance Burton, or Cris Angel, he's been making his living as a stage magician at least since the late 60's/early 70's. Seeing and meeting him was certainly a high point for me, as it was his monthly columns ("Subject: Illusions") in the magazine published by Abbott's Magic Manufacturing Company that inspired me to take the step up from close-up and parlor magic to full-sized illusions -- Doug Edwards and Company performed at assorted events in the Chicagoland area for the last couple of years I lived in that part of the state.

What a great thing to be! Such darn fun to be part of the audience, I can only guess how fun it is to do magic. If card tricks are part of the repertoire, may I say that I bust up whenever the trick 'waterfall' is performed? As kids, we enjoyed a lunchtime magic show at Disneyland, and when the magician said, "Here's the Niagara Falls!!" and did the trick, we oohed. Then he reversed directions and said, "Now this is it from the Canadian side." Even now, it amuses.
