I do wonder if the dingo/red fox comparison is appropriate (not that I've read the referenced paper) because the red fox is an introduced predator, and not a naturally occurring one here. We also have the complications of feral cats and rabbits, neither of which originated on the continent and were introduced in the same century as the red fox.

Relevant if you're looking just at the relationship between apex and middle predators, which is a generality; not so much if you're looking for examples of natural balance.
