MADAM, I'M CAR-FREE CHATHAM
The City of Blue Island cut the ribbon on Chatham Street bridge
renovations that converted the condemned, 60-year old motorized vehicle
bridge into a trail promenade for the Cal-Sag Trail:

THE OVER-UNDER CONNECTING SHOREWOOD TO JOLIET
The Forest Preserve District of Will County will connect Hammel Woods west
of I-55 and the DuPage River to Rock Run Preserve to the east with a side
path along Black Road, ducking under the Stephenson and crossing over the
river on a new bridge. The connection links Shorewood to Joliet's trail
system, including access to Joliet Junior College:

SAY "AHM-BRAH"
Along the Embarras River south of Charleston, Illinois, ridges carved by a
glacial deluge rise 200' above the flood plain in the new reserve
established by Champaign's Grand Prairie Friends Land Trust. This May and
June, an Illinois Trail Corps team will carve more than 4 miles of new,
primitive hiking and running trails

Lake County Forest Preserve District has loaded up on 2017 trail projects
to spend down the last of a $185 million bond referendum passed in 2008.

TODAY I AM STILL JUST A BILL
Three bills we back are moving through committee in Springfield:

* HB2725, which will help federal Recreational Trails Program awards out
to projects faster, passed the house last week & now will be debated in
the senate;

* HB3458 creates a grant program that helps conservation groups be good
land stewards, including partnering with Illinois Trail Corps;

* HB3455 creates an Adopt-a-Trail program at IDNR that should allow
volunteer and service groups like Illinois Trail Corps more opportunities
to help maintain trails at the underfunded agency.

Ask your local representatives to co-sponsor these important bills. Look
them up and contact them at
