Chocolate and Ginger

On Saturday we went shopping in Champaign-Urbana. This included a stop at Rubens Chocolatier. There is a new item available, just released in the last couple of days: crytallized ginger covered in chocolate. I saw that and immediately decided to buy a bag. The artisan who makes the chocolates insisted on giving us a sample first. (Only later did I realize that she was likely after feedback instead of the made-on-sight sale.) We were duly impressed and appreciative. She said that she'd been wanting to offer chocolate-covered ginger for some time, but couldn't find the right quality of ginger. (It tends to be fibrous; you have to hunt around to find really good tender ginger.) The end result is exquisite, and a must for ginger fans. It's well worth the trip into Champaign-Urbana. It comes in little bags ... I think I paid about $6.50 for this, and there's a generous handful of 10-12 pieces in there. We are sure to buy more. It's the best chocolate-covered ginger I've ever had, and I'm a serious fan of ginger.

I love edible art. I love people who put their heart into what they make, and create things of splendor.

Trader Joe's crystallized ginger slices are nice and tender. I should choculize some of them!
