Poem: "A Kiss of Insight"

This poem came out of the February 7, 2017 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired and sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette.

"A Kiss of Insight"

There are so many
different kinds of kisses
and each has its own meaning.

A kiss on the forehead
can mean friendship
or benediction.

Eskimo kisses
rub noses together
for affection and whimsy.

A kiss on the hand
expresses reverence.

Butterfly kisses show
shyness and tenderness.

A kiss on the cheek
is meant for friendship,
greetings and farewells.

Air kisses are sophisticated
and a little silly.

Kissing the foot
shows submission.

A lipstick kiss is for
long-distance affection.

Kissing under the mistletoe
conveys holiday spirit.

Food kisses are
intimate, intense with
taste and whispered intent:
I want you to keep living.

So many meanings peek out
from the same gesture,
each one different
and yet complete.

Notes:

Kisses can have many different meanings.
