Good News

Good news includes all the things which make us happy or otherwise feel good. It can be personal or public. We never know when something wonderful will happen, and when it does, most people want to share it with someone. It's disappointing when nobody is there to appreciate it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our joys and pat each other on the back.

What good news have you had recently?

Today, for the second day in a row, I took a seven-mile bike ride.

Up through the beginning of this year, about 10 miles a day was typical for me. One day about 3 weeks ago, I popped a hamstring while walking to a bus stop, and went flat on my ass on the sidewalk. Result: A bruise from mid-ass to knee that when I went to the hospital a week later for an unrelated colonoscopy had the staff asking me if I was being physically abused. ("Yes, by sidewalks" was apparently not one of the standard answers.)

Yesterday, for the first time since then, I was able to get *on* the bike. I'm sufficiently damaged that taking these short, easy rides is causing me to sleep most of the rest of the day, but progress is progress, and progress is good.
Finally had a day with enough sunshine to fully charge the battery of my solar-powered lighting system for the workshop I'm building, and thus I could see how long it would last.

I need a bigger battery. The panels produce more power than I've got storage, but what's installed powers the low level lighting throughout the night. Which is what I hoped it would do. On to phase 2 now. Bigger battery bank and hook up extra equipment.
Sunshine is good.
I'll say, recharged my battery too! S.A.D sucks, but at least the cure is cheap.
