Poem: "A Brief History of Heat"

This poem came out of the December 6, 2016 Poetry Fishbowl. It was prompted and sponsored by Anthony Barrette. It also fills the "Colder Weather" square in my 12-1-16 card for the iPod Shuffle Music Bingo Fest.

"A Brief History of Heat"

It started with rubbing two sticks together,
then evolved into striking flint with firestones.

We learned that oaken logs will warm you well,
how to fell and split and dry them for fires.

Then came coal, and gas, winter cheer
fueled by fossilized sunlight.

We tamed lightning for radiators and
heat pumps, tapped the earth for geothermal.

There are choices, now, to each their own:
The weather's cold, so get a new furnace.
