Birdfeeding

Today when I went out to feed the birds, I startled a great-horned owl from his perch, and got to watch him glide around the edge of the yard.  :D

There were sparrows swarming the suet feeder this morning.  Yesterday, I saw the first downy woodpecker on there.

The weather has turned frigid.  Remaining green leaves on plants are crunchy underfoot.  Apparently there's a polar vortex.  O_O

We had a great horned owl hang out in our neighborhood one summer. When he got started hooting at night--everything else shut up and they stayed shut up until he'd had his say. (I always had the strong impression that it was a "he" and not a "she"!)

We've had them for several years now, and they can make quite a racket at night.

Thank you for finding a bright spot in this! :D We've had some unpleasant years when it did not get cold enough to kill off the insects.
I hope the two of you will be warm enough while this cold snap plays itself out.

Not merely a polar vortex, but a Siberian air mass! With another one to follow after the end of the weekend.

Why, yes, I *am* a Weather Channel junkie.
