Black Colleges

Black students are more inclined to enroll in black colleges now

Amazingly, if you shit on people then they don't want to be around you and would rather be around others like themselves. Also if you refuse to allow them safe space, they will seek to create their own.

For black folks, that means don't expect white people to protect you; take care of yourselves.  And if their goals are not yours, then don't give them your money; keep it in your own cause.

There's keeping it real and supporting people who are like you, which is excellent, and then there's hiding away from people who are different from you, which is Wimping Out. I salute any LJers who get into Oakwood, Howard, Spelman, etc., for a good reason.
I see nothing wrong with avoiding people who abuse you, if you do not have the power to stop them by other means. It is quite sensible. This is a compelling reason why people of color and women cluster together. It's for protection. I don't see it as wimping out.

When members of a dominant group avoid diversity, that's wimping out. But people are entitled to choose who they spend their time with. They just aren't entitled to hurt others in the process, for example, banning others from living in a certain area. Dedicated housing (for seniors, families with small children, third-shift workers, etc.) is helpful for meeting different needs, and acceptable so long as there is general housing available in the same area and price range.
