State of the Air Conditioning

They finally brought out a temporary unit to cool the living room, which helps somewhat.

The parts are on backorder.  There is no indication of when they will ever arrive.  They are only available from one company. This is the second central air system we've had in 12 years.  They're fantastic when actually working.  But they are ruinously expensive and almost impossible to fix when they break.  And of course, these parts won't actually fix the damn machine, only make it possible to determine what else is broken, which might or might not be fixable and will probably take more months and months to repair.

I am left with the conclusion that the quality of both equipment and service in this industry is Russian-Monday, and the providers simply do not care if customers live or die.

Sounds like the state of your A/C is Mississippi: A godforsaken place populated only by those who *can't* get out. :(
It could also be compared to the clusterfuck that the Republicans have made of Kansas.

There's no accountability anywhere, nobody to complain to and say, "Hey, fix this!" They don't have to help. They don't have to do it in a timely manner. They don't have to make products that actually work. It's insane.
Do any local tv or radio stations have consumer reporters? Sometimes those can be helpful.
Yeah, the world is getting crazy and messed up in several ways, but the constant attempts to cut regulation and social services are some of the scarier things. To some degree, we need regulation as a jobs creator - we don't have a lot of other job creation industries. I'm now working for Amazon (putting a lot of storefront retailers out of business - but helping other non-storefronts) in Amazon Web Services (putting a lot of entry level sysadmins out of work).

It's normal for people to try to cut costs and find "efficiencies" but we've gotten to the point that all of those benefits are going straight to capital with ever decreasing amounts for labor. That's going to hurt us.
