Blog Metaphors

Here's a good post about blog metaphors.  Where are you, when you are in your blog?  I think of mine as a combination of office and living room (which are adjacent in my house) because I post a mix of professional and personal content.  Blog metaphors influence how people behave, because the etiquette is different for a street faire, a class in the park, or somebody's house.

A few of my posts, notably the river series and anything set in Callahan's, have a very definite place to them. The rest, well, I've been saying for decades that Cyberspace is a place in its own right. It feels a lot like my desk, only instead of sitting in a corner of our great room, it's in a vast, somewhat hazy space where things take form only when I think about them. I get visitors only occasionally, but there's usually something comfortable for them to sit on, and their beverage of choice is readily available.

Very much the stuff that dreams are made of.
Cyberspace is basically the gizmotronic version of Underhill.
Yup -- "an alternate universe where magic works".

Sometimes it seems more real to me than this world.
Where we play with words and symbols
And creation is the game
For our symbols have the power
To become the things they name

Or, the official page. With the chords in the right places, and a link to the audio.

IIRC, I wrote that shortly after I started posting regularly in alt.callahans on Usenet.
:D Fond memories. <3
