Wednesday Yardening

Today we planted and mulched five privet seedlings.  This was made somewhat more difficult by the giant clouds of gnats.  :/

Privet is one of the most invasive and persistent weeds I'm my garden. Deliberately planting it is...unnecessary.

Having said that, they're a nice small tree/bush. Small or large leafed?
I think small leaved, but it didn't specify, just said privet hedge.

I picked privet because the honeysuckles are definitely invasive here -- which they were not several decades ago -- and the forsythias sucker aggressively.

I am rather left with a choice between bushes that grow too well, or not well enough. >_
I think the large leaf is more tree than the small leaf. Both have lots of flowers and berries here. Which is part of our problem.

Birds like the berries.
According to the catalog, these are not supposed to reach tree-height.
Probably small leaf then. Good luck with them!
