Poem: "Weather Is What You Get"

This poem came out of the December 1, 2015 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from [personal profile] curiosity, [personal profile] siliconshaman, [personal profile] janetmiles, [personal profile] wyld_dandelyon, LJ user My_partner_doug, and Shirley Barrette.

"Weather Is What You Get"

Climate is what you expect;
weather is what you get.

In temperate climes,
the seasons are spring,
summer, autumn, winter.

In Michigan, they are
June, July, August,
and winter.

In the tropics, the seasons
are dry, wet, dry, monsoon.

In Arizona, they are
snowbird and road construction.

Some say the Midwest
has only two seasons --
summer and winter --
while the time in between
consists of arguments as to
who's in charge that day.

If you don't like the weather,
wait five minutes.
It'll change.

Thunder, lightning, rain, wind,
sleet, snow, fog, sun ...
tornado and hurricane,
flood and drought ...
blessing and bane.

Hear the rain falling in the night,
the wind talking in the trees;
see the clouds rolling over the sun,
and the rainbow they leave behind.

Weather: can't live with it,
can't live without it.

Even in space there is weather,
solar winds blowing across
Earth's veil of atmosphere,
making auroras billow.

Sunspots and solar flares
are not kind to electronics,
but meteor showers are beautiful.

Space weathermen tell
what to watch for and
what to ward against.

Mercurial and crucial,
the moods of the atmosphere
enclose our lives and even
influence our feelings.

In the end, weather
is just a state of mind.

Notes:

Yes, space weather reports are happening.

Sunshine and rain at the same time in the Emerald City... where we have OMG RAIN, then rain, then more rain with a few sun breaks, then June-uary.... then something happens we don't talk about much for fear everyone will crowd us out... ;)
Illinois weather is frequently the "If you don't like it, wait five minutes" variety.
