"Not Just Gifts, But Also Joy"
The day after Christmas,
Jackie Frost and Fireheart
packed up things for Boxing Day --
some of her maternity clothes that she
hadn't given to pregnant friends yet,
some of his clothes that weren't comfortable
to wear under a five-point climbing harness,
the baby things that their daughter Aurora
had already outgrown or gotten bored with,
and a few duplicate gifts that could be
shared with less fortunate families.
They took everything to the neighborhood church,
where the fellowship hall in the basement
had been turned into a giveaway.
Aurora bobbed overhead, tethered to
her mother, fascinated by the display.
As they were piling boxes of clothes onto
one of the tables in the hall, the pastor
Reuben Angevine came alongside them.
"I'm so happy to see you here!" he said with
a big grin. "I was really hoping you'd come today.
This holiday brings not just gifts, but also joy."
He always met them with enthusiasm,
even though they only visited the church
a few times a year, mostly on holidays.
"It's good to see you too," said Jackie Frost.
"Someone brought in a dexflan blanket,"
said Reuben. "It's yours if you want it."
"Yes, please," said Fireheart. Dexflan
was responsive to superpowers, and
thus more durable in a family of soups.
"There's something else I think you could
put to good use," Reuben added.
"A party supply club donated several."
He led them to the back of the hall
where several bouncy castles were
attached to an industrial fan.
Inside the largest one, eight children
squealed and chased each other,
happily occupied while their parents
were busy with the giveaway.
"Aren't these meant for older children,
and mostly for groups?" Fireheart asked.
"Yes, we'll be keeping one for the church,"
Reuben said. "However, with the soft walls
and screened windows, you could let
Aurora off the tether to play safely."
"What a wonderful idea!" said Jackie Frost.
"We'll need plenty of weight to keep it
grounded," Fireheart pointed out.
"Let's test it out," Reuben said.
He kicked off his shoes and climbed
into the smaller yellow castle.
Jackie Frost and Fireheart joined him,
zipping the door closed behind them
and then letting Aurora loose.
She happily bobbed and bounced around
the cushiony ceiling. At eight months,
she was excited to explore the world.
"Best Boxing Day ever," said Jackie Frost.

This bouncy castle appeals to children of all ages. The 13'x13' size fits into most people's yard. It can fit up to six children at a time. There is also a larger pink version. These are typical of what can be rented in the Toronto area.
Babies at eight months are beginning to explore vigorously. They may move around by rolling, creeping, crawling ... or in Terramagne, flying.
