Moment of Silence: Yvonne Craig

Yvonne Craig has passed away.  She was best known for her role as Batgirl in the 1960s show.

Farewell, favorite superhera.  Tune in next incarnation ... same bat time, same bat channel!

I credit Yvonne Craig with a good acting job in this role, which essentially was trying to keep the dying series alive.

In the same way that Burt Ward needed to demonstrate some gymnastic abilities to be hired to play Robin, Craig had ballet experience which was useful during the fight sequences. I remember her as being graceful during those, and she managed well at projecting the character premise of "I am a normal citizen of Gotham City and fit quite well into Bruce Wayne's household, although I am hiding my double identity of a costumed hero."

But the credit stops there. I don't think she was taken seriously as part of the "crime fighting team" by the producers of the show. One executive let himself be quoted discussing her Batgirl costume: "We are hoping that some of the older male members of the audience will enjoy looking at her."

Not Ms. Craig's fault, that. She did well with the material given her.
