He's been trying. It's just that the challenges exceed his coping skills. Faramundo was a decent parent before all this happened. But losing a child can wreck even a very healthy family. Finding out that his daughter is alive but can't come home with them is traumatic, and the superpower is just the straw that breaks the camel's back. Getting some distance from it is a reasonably sensible thing to do. The method -- well, Faramundo is out of spoons and out of cope and therefore handled his departure badly.
