"And I Feel Fine"
After decades of inequality,
the Supreme Court finally ruled --
as it once did for interracial marriages --
that same-sex marriages must be legal,
and this time added that marriage
is a keystone of our social order
to which everyone has a right.
The neoconservatives are screaming.
It's the end of the world as we know it ...
The remaining states that have striven
to deny equality will be obliged
to acknowledge it.
Those who have been shut out
of society will be welcomed in.
The walls and the barricades
are replaced with rainbows.
The neoconservatives are screaming.
... and I feel fine.
The premise that love makes people
somehow lesser because of their feelings is
beginning to crumble, and to bring down with it
all the discrimination based upon that foundation.
Sometimes, the end of the world is a good thing.
