Good News
Good news includes all the things which make us happy or otherwise feel good.  It can be personal or public.  We never know when something wonderful will happen, and when it does, most people want to share it with someone.  It's disappointing when nobody is there to appreciate it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our joys and pat each other on the back.

What good news have you had recently?

Two family members with health issues have made good progress - my 90-something-year-old aunt was sent home from rehab following a heart attack, and my uncle is recovering well from a bypass and aneurysm repair!

Also the problems we were having with the new townhouse seem like they'll be resolved quite nicely.

That's good to hear.

We finally clue-batted the contractors into listening to us about tile choices in our new master bath, so the project is back on track... and we have actual windows installed! And they're going to do a wood subfloor instead of concrete, which means additional floodproofing, warmer toes, *and* a savings of $1000...

And despite the day being a complete and total Monday, I managed to finish it with my trouble ticket queue clear.

I released a new coloring book! And baked a sea monster apple pie! And have finally gotten some childcare lined up so I can Get Things Done!

Reconnecting with Friends you've lost touch with

Last weeeknd was social-downtime-social for me. Saturday I spent at a friend's birthday party. I've known him for over 20 years and we had lost touch. It was good to see everyone and also be reminded that people like me for me. Monday was spent with another friend who I had lost touch with. It was good to hang out with her as well.

The social workers who spoke to Travis and me about the potential outcomes of a genetic test for Huntington's Disease seemed very pleased with both of us for our maturity, Travis' pragmatism and my willingness to support.
Mum's radiotherapy is going well. Only a lumpectomy, some medication changes and radiotherapy were needed and the lovely people are fast-tracking her through it in a shorter timeframe.
I unenrolled from the Health Sciences course after panicking over it, and I was right to do so. It was very generic, which may not be 'bad' for postgraduate media studies or working in the government, but if I can get those outcomes and more from something more specific- it's better to wait until I'm sure. Also, I'm a terrible driver but it's feeling less foreign.

I learned today that an anthology has accepted one of my stories.

And my brother and his family in Houston are still safe and dry.

When I was at Wiscon this past weekend (where I had a blast!), an editor to whom I had submitted a piece of writing last year told me - completely out of the blue - "even though I rejected you last time, keep writing."
