Anyhow, this got me thinking about LiveJournal. Several friends have observed that LJ networking works best for people who use the Friends function liberally. I haven't been doing that up to this point. So, I've decided to give it a try and see if it makes a notable improvement. I have therefore gone through my profile and put everyone on my "Friends" list who has me on theirs.

If you don't have time to read everyone, you can create a filter called "friends to read" and just use that filter for reading. That's what I do.

Friends ---->Manage Custom Groups
Click "New". Give your group a name.
Then you will see 2 fields:
"Not In Group" >> "In Group"
<<
Everyone on your f-list will be in the "Not In Group" one.
Click on each person you want to be in the group. For instance, everyone that you want to read daily. Use CTL or CMD or whatever key you use to select multiple people. Then click the >> and they will move to "In Group". Then hit Save Changes.
When you are ready to read a group...well, I have my own as a bookmark and that's what I use for LJ reading. BUT... you would go to
Friends --->Filter Friends Page
Each group you have is a link. Click the group you want to read and voila.
I also have a subgroup for friends who are truly "friends" and whom I do not mind reading my innermost thoughts. So when people request to be put on my list, I can do so, but I don't need ot let them see the deeper parts of me. They just go on my general list. When I am creating a post, under "Options" I can select my posts to be Private, Public, Friends, or Custom. I choose Custom and all my Friends Groups/Filters come up. I check off the box that represents the people I want to be able to read that post, and it's filtered.
