Welcome to Winterfaire 2014

The Winterfaire spreads out as far as the eye can see. Some booths show streamers of red and green, while others sport blue and silver. All of them offer treasure after shining treasure. Music fills the air with lyrics of Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, and Yule. From the Wordsmith's Forge comes the bright chiming of words being hammered into literature. Delicious scents of hot chocolate, spiced cider, peppermint, baking cookies, and gingerbread tantalize the appetite. Smiling, laughing shoppers amble from booth to booth with lists in hand. Vendors grin back, calling out, "Come try, come buy...!"

I know a lot of artists, writers, musicians, crafters, and other talented folks who make some of their living from their creative endeavors. I don't always have the money to support them as much as I'd like, but what I can do is set up a virtual faire where vendors can offer their wares to an audience that likes crafts, literature, and small businesses. For those of you doing your holiday shopping, here's an opportunity to buy something made with love, something unusual or unique, in a way that helps make it possible for creative people to go on creating wonders. And there will be no traffic jams, stampedes, or gunfights at the Winterfaire! Enjoy the seasonal offerings on Dreamwidth or on LiveJournal.

Vendors: If you have goods or services suitable for holiday gifts, please put up a booth by replying with a description of what you sell, an estimate of your price range if possible, and some kind of contact information so shoppers can reach you. If you have a website (Etsy, DeviantArt, personal, whatever) showcasing your work in more detail, include the link(s). If you have holiday freebies, such as downloadable greeting card imagery, you're welcome to promote those too. For ease of identification, I recommend titling your reply starting with "BOOTH:" followed by the name of your business or type of goodies.

Shoppers: If you're looking for something specific and it's not posted yet, feel free to ask. Someone else may know where to find it! "SHOPPING FOR:" and the topic would be a good title.

Everyone: You may help promote the Winterfaire by linking to this post from your own blog or site. If you have a similar holiday-networking post, you may link to it in a comment on this post.

Participation Perk: I'm offering poetry for participation, beginning with verses of "Hercules and the Lions" (53 verses) from the series Polychrome Heroics. Because, you see, all of these activities will unlock a verse each time someone does them:
* link to this Winterfaire page to boost the signal
* comment posting a Booth of your wares/services in the Winterfaire
* buy something from a vendor listed in the Winterfaire
* host a similar holiday market in your own blog or other venue
LiveJournal will notify me of comments to the Winterfaire post and links to it elsewhere on LJ; for everything else, you need to TELL ME in order to get credit for it.

Similar Markets:
Do you know of another indie holiday shopping post? Let me know and I'll link it here.

Words being forged... the clack-clack-clack-ding!-zzzzzip! of an old manual typewriter? They're called "hammers" for a reason... :)
I have Coloring books for grown-ups available. Themes include: mermaids, Arabian Nights, Steampunk, zombies, dark fantasy, fairy tales, and other fantasy topics.

They are only available until December 1 - I am closed the rest of December.
I have posted your verse.
I don't create anything, but may I link to two friends who do? With their permission of course, but I wanted to ask you before asking them.
You are welcome to recommend creative friends, as long as they're willing to be featured here.

BOOTH: Starcat Designs

November 29 2014, 02:59:45 UTC 6 years ago Edited:  November 29 2014, 03:00:39 UTC

The Starcat logo at the front of the booth glows with the magic of the Faire, as if it were a real constellation. Inside are tables with displays of stone and glass bead jewelry, inexpensive sterling-silver earrings and pendants, and also small gifts for the home: several sizes of mortar & pestle sets, tote bags, wooden boxes, a selection of carved stone animals, and beaded bookmarks. Tinsel garlands twined around the roof beams and glittery paper snowflakes add a festive air, and above one unobtrusive spot between two tables dangles a sprig of mistletoe.

Prices on the stone and glass jewelry range from $15 to $400, but most items are in the $20-to-$150 range. Most of the sterling-silver earrings and pendants are $20; some of the fancier pieces are $25 or $30. All gift items are $20 or less.

Items are available for visual examination and purchase at the Starcat Designs website. On orders of $125 or more, shipping is free. I will happily answer questions either here or thru the website.

Note 1: The website is relatively new, and I'm still putting merchandise up on it. I'll be making a big push on that over the weekend, because...

Note 2: I'm having an outpatient surgical procedure on Dec. 2, so responses to sales may be sluggish for a few days after that.

The Instant Attitudes booth is a little shabby and shopworn, although some attempts have been made to spruce it up a bit. Across the back is a hanging display of T-shirt designs, while the trays on the front table contain a wide variety of bumper stickers for customers to browse through. The proprietor looks tired, but is still making a valiant effort to keep up the seasonal cheer.

Instant Attitudes sells T-shirts and bumper stickers designed to appeal to a geeky and educated audience. Examples:
- Knowledge is Power; Power Corrupts; Study Hard; Be Evil
- A mind needs books like a knife needs a whetstone, to maintain its edge.
- Instant Zombie - just add morning!
- The Ways are many; the Light is one (with an array of religious symbols from around the world)
- Steampunk means never having to ask, "Is this period?"
- Alcohol and calculus don't mix. Never drink and derive.
- You don't need to look at my chest. These aren't the breasts you're looking for. Move along.
- Belief is no substitute for knowledge.

T-shirt price is $19 plus shipping for sizes S-XL; 2X and up slightly more (reflecting the price difference of the blank shirts). Sizes up to 5X are regularly available, and 6X is available by special order.

Bumper sticker prices start at $2.50, with price breaks at 3, 12, and 20 stickers. We sometimes get orders in which it's clear that the whole office, or the whole gaming group, has gone in on an order to get the bulk pricing.

The payment structure is... a little antiquated. There's no shopping cart, although there are PayPal purchase buttons on the T-shirts. For bumper stickers, we advise sending an e-mail with the list of what you want so that we can check availability; then we'll send you a total price with shipping and a PayPal link; we also accept checks and money orders by mail. If you live outside the US, please contact us about any order before sending payment -- international shipping costs are wildly variable.

Thank you! I have posted two new verses for you, one for this booth and one for the second booth you listed.

Alas, the holidays are not always fun for folks. I make educational mental health comics that can be handy this time of year--tiny pocket zines to help cope with depression and eating disorders, plus more informational ones about multiple personality, gender, and dissociation! You can buy them on Etsy, for prices ranging from $1-$5.

And because I am a man of many hats, I also write stories tailored to my audience's tastes. I'm having a special writeathon opening up December 1st on the theme of kindness, where you can buy stories for half-price... but only if you buy someone else's! Let's be generous and give story presents this year! You can get involved here, (this post will link to the prompt call when it opens), and stories average about $30--so $15 if you take advantage of the special deal!
Thank you! I have posted your new verse.

I'll definitely watch for your December writeathon.
Magickal Vision: The Art of Jolie E. Bonnette.

I'm an eclectic artist who primarily works in digital media. I primarily do sci-fi-, fantasy and Pagan art. I also do some pop culture type stuff. I have a wide array of merchandise available across a number of online platforms. The price ranges are from a couple of dollars to hundreds, so there' a little something for everyone. You can see samples of my work and a listing of my online shops on the Products page of my website at http://www.JolieBonnette.com

I'm disabled, fighting to get my disability and unable to get public assistance due to the many hoops they make applicants jump through which I can't manage due to lack of transportation, so money is beyond tight. Any sales would be greatly appreciated this holiday season!
Thank you! I have posted a verse for you.
My virtual booth is at priscillaking.blogspot.com ; scroll down until you see "Greensleeves Knitting" to see images of knitwear only. (None of it's really professionally photographed.) I'm a penniless writer trying to make money by helping other writers along with myself, so please feel free to order books from me, too.

Also worth checking out are Theresa Wiza's crocheted pieces at http://www.allcraftconnection.org/2014/ .
Thank you! I have posted a verse for your booth and a verse for your signal boost on your own website.
The Many Worlds of K. A. Webb is written on the booth, in a mix of fonts, because there are just too many to pick one. Standing just inside are a couple of life clay animals, explaining the Many Worlds to people, while I sit at the back with my netbook out and a bandage on my wrist. They're doing the people part, because they're so much better at it that I am. I'm writing the stories, much more slowly than normal, but that should change once my software arrives. (Please be soon.)

I have my website, where you can read free fiction. There's nothing very new, sadly, as I've had to focus on income making work, but I want that to change. I have a Patreon, which is very lonely at the moment, but again that's something I want to change. Then I have my Etsy store. A half price sale is currently running - use code DECEMBER2014. I offer custom writing in my worlds and in yours.
Thank you! I have added your verse.

BOOTH: DreamWriter's Dreaming

dreamwriters

December 22 2014, 03:41:12 UTC 6 years ago Edited:  December 22 2014, 03:43:51 UTC

There's a pine green booth decorated simply with silver bells and paper snowflakes.

The blue banner across the display table reads

DreamWriter's Dreaming
where we weave and quilt stories from the borders of fiction and reality

Inside the booth there are several people writing, passing a fedora around the booth as they weave tales and a couple folks conferring as they pin figures to make notes on the fabric storyboard made from upcycled quilt squares along the backwall of the tent.

At the display table, a young man wearing a golden scarf and hat is cheerfully calling out, "Happy Holidays! There's an Irregular Prompt Call [also on DW] going from now until Christmas! Come leave some prompts on the theme of Joy & Connection! If you don't have any ideas or see anything you like from our samples, we also take custom story orders! Check the order board!"

On the table itself in front of him is a binder of Fiction, Poetry and nonfiction samples and an order board that reads as follows:

If you don't see anything you like, we also take custom fiction and poetry orders.

90-100 word ficlet/0-3 line poetry $3 USD
101-200 word ficlet/4-10 line poetry $5 USD
201-400 word ficlet/11-15 line poetry, $10 USD
401-600 word ficlets/16-20 line petry, $15 USD
601-800 word ficlets/21-60 line poetry $20 USD
801-1000+ word ficlet/60+ line poetry $30+* USD

There's a paypal button on our profile and on the prompt call page. It's easiest to reach us via PM for custom orders.
