Welcome to Winterfaire 2014

Words being forged... the clack-clack-clack-ding!-zzzzzip! of an old manual typewriter? They're called "hammers" for a reason... :)

The Starcat logo at the front of the booth glows with the magic of the Faire, as if it were a real constellation. Inside are tables with displays of stone and glass bead jewelry, inexpensive sterling-silver earrings and pendants, and also small gifts for the home: several sizes of mortar & pestle sets, tote bags, wooden boxes, a selection of carved stone animals, and beaded bookmarks. Tinsel garlands twined around the roof beams and glittery paper snowflakes add a festive air, and above one unobtrusive spot between two tables dangles a sprig of mistletoe.


Prices on the stone and glass jewelry range from $15 to $400, but most items are in the $20-to-$150 range. Most of the sterling-silver earrings and pendants are $20; some of the fancier pieces are $25 or $30. All gift items are $20 or less.

Items are available for visual examination and purchase at the Starcat Designs website. On orders of $125 or more, shipping is free. I will happily answer questions either here or thru the website.


Note 1: The website is relatively new, and I'm still putting merchandise up on it. I'll be making a big push on that over the weekend, because...

Note 2: I'm having an outpatient surgical procedure on Dec. 2, so responses to sales may be sluggish for a few days after that.

The Instant Attitudes booth is a little shabby and shopworn, although some attempts have been made to spruce it up a bit. Across the back is a hanging display of T-shirt designs, while the trays on the front table contain a wide variety of bumper stickers for customers to browse through. The proprietor looks tired, but is still making a valiant effort to keep up the seasonal cheer.


Instant Attitudes sells T-shirts and bumper stickers designed to appeal to a geeky and educated audience. Examples:
- Knowledge is Power; Power Corrupts; Study Hard; Be Evil
- A mind needs books like a knife needs a whetstone, to maintain its edge.
- Instant Zombie - just add morning!
- The Ways are many; the Light is one (with an array of religious symbols from around the world)
- Steampunk means never having to ask, "Is this period?"
- Alcohol and calculus don't mix. Never drink and derive.
- You don't need to look at my chest. These aren't the breasts you're looking for. Move along.
- Belief is no substitute for knowledge.

T-shirt price is $19 plus shipping for sizes S-XL; 2X and up slightly more (reflecting the price difference of the blank shirts). Sizes up to 5X are regularly available, and 6X is available by special order.

Bumper sticker prices start at $2.50, with price breaks at 3, 12, and 20 stickers. We sometimes get orders in which it's clear that the whole office, or the whole gaming group, has gone in on an order to get the bulk pricing.

The payment structure is... a little antiquated. There's no shopping cart, although there are PayPal purchase buttons on the T-shirts. For bumper stickers, we advise sending an e-mail with the list of what you want so that we can check availability; then we'll send you a total price with shipping and a PayPal link; we also accept checks and money orders by mail. If you live outside the US, please contact us about any order before sending payment -- international shipping costs are wildly variable.

Alas, the holidays are not always fun for folks. I make educational mental health comics that can be handy this time of year--tiny pocket zines to help cope with depression and eating disorders, plus more informational ones about multiple personality, gender, and dissociation! You can buy them on Etsy, for prices ranging from $1-$5.

And because I am a man of many hats, I also write stories tailored to my audience's tastes. I'm having a special writeathon opening up December 1st on the theme of kindness, where you can buy stories for half-price... but only if you buy someone else's! Let's be generous and give story presents this year! I'm an eclectic artist who primarily works in digital media. I primarily do sci-fi-, fantasy and Pagan art. I also do some pop culture type stuff. The Many Worlds of K. A. Webb is written on the booth, in a mix of fonts, because there are just too many to pick one. Standing just inside are a couple of life clay animals, explaining the Many Worlds to people, while I sit at the back with my netbook out and a bandage on my wrist. They're doing the people part, because they're so much better at it that I am. I'm writing the stories, much more slowly than normal, but that should change once my software arrives. I have my website, where you can read free fiction. There's nothing very new, sadly, as I've had to focus on income making work, but I want that to change. I have a Patreon, which is very lonely at the moment, but again that's something I want to change. Then I have my Etsy store. A half price sale is currently running - use code DECEMBER2014. Inside the booth there are several people writing, passing a fedora around the booth as they weave tales and a couple folks conferring as they pin figures to make notes on the fabric storyboard made from upcycled quilt squares along the backwall of the tent.

At the display table, a young man wearing a golden scarf and hat is cheerfully calling out, "Happy Holidays! There's an Irregular Prompt Call [also on DW] going from now until Christmas! Come leave some prompts on the theme of Joy & Connection! If you don't have any ideas or see anything you like from our samples, we also take custom story orders! Check the order board!"
