This poem came out of the October 7, 2014 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired and sponsored by Anthony Barrette. It also fills the "cause and effect" square in my 9-29-14 card for the Origfic Bingo Fest.
Creationists believe that
God made the world in six days.
Climate change deniers believe that
global warming is a hoax.
No amount of facts can shake their faith;
they are convinced that these things are so.
They know that others prefer science to religion,
so they couch their tenets in those terms.
They use the glossary of science
but not the substance of it.
They begin with a conclusion
and then seek evidence to support it.
They may not be clinically insane,
and they certainly are not scientific,
but they fill the role of mad scientists
in these modern times.
They remind us that it is not monsters we should fear,
but the effects of our own foolishness.

Creationism is the belief that God created the world literally in six days. As people try to push creationism into schools, this undermines education.
Global warming is already happening, yet people continue to deny it. This threatens the survival of the human species and the diversity of the biosphere.
