The Seeds You Plant
It is the law of nature
for seeds to sprout and
for things to feed on each other.
Even a weedy little flower shop
is no exception.
Carnivorous plants just want
to eat in order to survive;
it is toxic human relationships
that are truly parasitic.
The quest to please a despotic boss
leads to desperation and manslaughter
and, eventually, murder.
Small mistakes inspire mistreatment
which sparks revenge and then violence.
A raspy green voice croons,
"Feed me, Seymour."
We are responsible for
what we create and what we feed.
These things come to depend on us
so they can survive and thrive.
They twine around us like vines,
grow plump buds waiting to flower
into the fruits of our lives.
The thought of money draws a robber
who is lured to his death by his own greed.
The plant itself bites the hand that feeds it,
only to cut off the source of its own sustenance.
Everyone is left wondering
what went wrong, but nobody
is looking at themselves.
Be mindful of the seeds you plant.
Be careful of the things you feed.
