I don't have to watch it. I know how viciously they responded.
I swear there are times when I feel like starting a nation-wide campaign to tell kids from one end of the US to the other, not to come out to anyone until you are through with both high school AND college or trade school. Your folks owe you the education/training you need in order to survive and you won't get it if they throw you out of the house because you came out too early. (At least not without taking them to court over it.)
I feel so sorry for that kid.
:(
My reasoning is that it isn't safe before you are a legal adult. Until then, you have no rights except what adults please to give you. So unless you trust your parents literally with your LIFE, don't tell them things that could put you at serious risk.
As usual, you cut right to the heart of the matter...
I know that in years past, inside the state of Miss, parents could have such a child committed to an insane aslyum--on their sayso and nothing else. (I've seen Whitfield, the state insane aslum. That is truly nowhere anyone sane wants to spend any time.)
:^(
Evidently that still happens in some places.
Yes. I can verify this, maybe not about being gay but in the old days even asking too many questions about sex. My great aunt was committed and spent most of her life there apparently for that reason.

These days, it's more likely to be independent camps for gay kids than formal institutionalization, I think.
Yeah, where they practically drown those poor kids in religion and demand they change their wicked ways and become straight.
:(

That's disturbing.

Also a problem.
I agree, but I also know that for some trans people, coming out and getting parental support for early transition is imperative, since puberty is the great ravager for a lot of people. (We got off comparatively lucky.)

So it's one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't things. That said, I am REALLY FUCKING GLAD that our brain didn't allow us to know a lot of the dangerous shit until we were legal adults and safely out of the house and with our own bank accounts. It made sure that we wouldn't get ourselves Baker Acted.

Let me tell you how it was coming out to parents as trans.........

Oh, wait..........
Sadly similar. My sympathies.
