Bad news: Evil aliens just warped into the solar system.

Good news: My stress toy just warped into the solar system.

Yes, that is exactly how I would interpret this situation. I am already pissed at a jillion things I cannot fight directly. You poor, sorry bastards just volunteered to become my punching bag for all that frustration by stepping into range. BAM! POW!

Yeah, the one thing guaranteed to unite all the quarrelsome folks of planet Earth into one big happy jihad against whatever poor invading set of aliens are stupid enough to come visiting.
(Hope your irritations go away and leave you alone the rest of the weekend!)
:)
Sadly, climate change and all the isms won't be going away. I find the state of the world rage-inducing. Most of the time, I can keep a lid on that. But given a legitimate target like invading aliens?

Once you have pulled the pin from Mr. Grenade, he is no longer your friend.
You know... I've occasionally thought if you wanted to get the human race moving on the whole 'get the hell off the planet' thing, one way would be to convincingly fake an alien menace.

Can you imagine everyone's reaction if they thought there was some implacable alien threat out there? [say something like the borg or the Replicators from stargate.]
Finally the Republicans would have a sensible cause to get behind!!!
;^)

Betting someone, somewhere, would be like; "Well, I for one welcome our Alien overlords"... and mean it. Although, hopefully not too many.
That's in the Worldwar series. The Jews in WWII initially welcomed the Lizards, seeing them as better than Nazis. Can't say I blame them. At one point there's a brilliant discussion between two Lizards, explaining that each group of humans hates some other group of humans more than they hate the Lizards.
Not read that... not sure I'd want to honestly. I'm cynical enough as it is. But yeah, sounds like the Lizards understand humans.
I don't doubt it for a minute. As long as someone thinks they might become the "teacher's pet", there would be someone who'd welcome them with open arms.

That comes up in "Watchmen."
Well.. yes... but you must admit, that was a really dumb design for an alien menace. I mean, a giant squid monster from another dimension that teleports in, materializing half-in and half-out of a bunch of buildings... even with the stinking corpse for evidence, people are going to have a hard time buying that, it sounds like a bad B-movie. [and the whole 'psionic death scream' thing.. phooy!]

Now, an oncoming swarm of Van Neumann machines bent on converting every last bit of metal into more of themselves, and just coincidently wipe out anything organic in the way... that would scare people! They don't even have to be smart, just like a swarm of army ants doesn't have to be. People could instantly grasp the menace part of that with no explanation.

Of course it was. It just uses the same idea-seed.

Or the Westboro Baptist Church! I have found that nothing inspires unity like the sheer grossness of the Westboro Baptist Church. Even the KKK doesn't like them!
I like the saying, "Live your life so that the Westboro Baptist Church will want to picket your funeral."
No one does.
Haters and leaky skunks are welcome nowhere.
:(
See... this is why labelling zombie films as 'horror' doesn't work any more. Because so many people would react with glee at a genuine zombie apocalypse with guilt-free legitimate targets!!

The poor undead wouldn't stand a chance.

Mind.. this is also probably why aliens won't be contacting humans any time soon... they're smart enough not to poke this particular hornet's nest!
