when you asked that question: Purple worm, D&D, 1974. A giant purple worm which burrows beneath the earth in search of organic matter to eat, and which can swallow human-size creatures whole with one attack.
Yeah, I thought about those, and shai hulud, and a bunch of other burrowing megaworms from speculative fiction.
First place MY mind went was "With a name like that, is this a worm that bites off... well... certain portions of the anatomy, like Lorena Bobbitt did with that knife?"
Yeah, that's where my mind went too.
