Poem: "Jack Union's Apology to Dr. Infanta"
This poem was inspired by discussion under "Not the Absence of Fear," particularly a comment by siliconshaman.  It also fills the "FREE SPACE: Apology" square in my 5-22-15 card for the Origfic Bingo fest.  It has been sponsored out of the general fund, based on an audience poll.  This poem belongs to the Dr. Infanta thread of the Polychrome Heroics series.

Jack Union's Apology to Dr. Infanta

Dear Alicia,

I am writing this note to apologize for what I did after the fight at the SPOON base.

I am sorry for calling you rude names. A hero should be polite.

I am sorry for interrupting you while you were healing someone who got hurt in the fight. A hero should put helping people first.

To make up for this, I will be cleaning up your part of the mess from the fight as well as mine. I also plan to take some extra training on proper behavior for heroes.

I acted like a bully, and nobody looks up to a bully. What I did was wrong. I won't do it again. Please forgive me.

This is a prose poem.

Here is the cover of the apology card that Jack Union sent to Dr. Infanta.

A meaningful apology consists of several parts.  Understand how to apologizeWriting an apology letter includes a subtly different set of aspects.  Follow the steps to apologize in writingTeaching kids to apologize is a part of parenting, but not everyone learns it.  Forcing people to apologize just teaches lying and manipulation; instead, encourage them to express their feelings and offer practical recompense.  A reduced penalty is another incentive for sincere apology.

Positive discipline includes the premise that "discipline teaches, punishment hurts."  There are tips and techniques for positive discipline, some of which work fine at all ages.  Although Granny Whammy grew up with authoritarian rules, she has learned more nuanced options over the decades.  She helped Jack find areas of agreement, rather than try to get him to apologize for attacking a supervillain in general, which he's not sorry for and will doubtless do again.  But he probably won't repeat the mistake of doing it during or immediately after a supervillain delivering aid-and-comfort.

Thank you!

I'm glad you liked it. I wanted to show some of the ways that Terramagne avoids the worst problems that Marvelverse or DC have.

I don't understand the difference between a prose poem and prose. I've tried. I doubt I ever will, though. To me, this is just a very short story in letter format.

Well ...

>> I don't understand the difference between a prose poem and prose. I've tried. I doubt I ever will, though. <<

I'm nearly the same. In theory, the use of other poetic devices can make it poetry. But to me it usually reads like fiction.

>> To me, this is just a very short story in letter format.<<

Technically the epistolary form can be counted as poetry or prose. Often a single letter gets filed as poetry. I put it here because the rest of the series is poetry.
