Poem: "Transcendent Friendships"

This is the freebie for today's fishbowl.  It was inspired by a prompt from marina_bonomi who linked to an article about a stray cat befriending a lynx.

Transcendent Friendships

In the Leningrad Zoo,
a stray cat slipped through the bars
into the enclosure of a European Lynx
in search of something to eat.

Instead of attacking the interloper,
the lynx delicately sniffed noses,
greeting in the universal language of felines
this tiny stranger from afar.

From that moment they were inseparable.

Sometimes it is possible to find
such transcendent friendships
as can surpass the bounds
of size, shape, species
or expectation.

Aww, that's so sweet! And it touches on expectations again... I wonder if that will be a theme running through more of this month's poetry?
The theme of expectations does show up in other poems this month, but then, it's a favorite of mine that recurs fairly often throughout my work. I like overturning expectations or slanting things in a different direction.
I love this!
I'm happy to hear that.
