"The Leader of the Rebel Drones Considers the Length of His Span"

To my sorrow,
I have outlived all my brothers
But one.
I have seen them
Grow old and die before me.
I have seen even my Queen
Grow old and slow, though she still lives.

But to my joy,
I have lived long enough
To see the snow come and go many times.
I have seen my daughters
And even my sons
Grow strong and industrious.
This is a grand new gift of time and life.

I do not know why the Ones Who Give Life
Have granted me so many seasons,
But I regret not a one of them.
