Poem: "The Dragon Nebula"

This poem came out of the March 4, 2014 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired by a picture prompt from siliconshaman.  It also fills the "gravity" square in my 1-31-14 card for the Origfic Bingo fest.  This poem has been sponsored out of the general fund, based on an audience poll.

The Dragon Nebula

She begins to coalesce
when no one is looking,
vanes of dark matter manifesting wings,
her eyes white with starfire.

Delicately she checks her egg,
nosing the thin shell of the planet
to see if it is ready to hatch yet.
It is not.

Gravity furls around her as she goes.

As a planet surface dweller I am moved to ask, "What sort of planet is a space dragon egg?" Just in case, you understand.
It can vary. Some might be lava worlds or ice worlds. The prompt image hinted at Earth based on the lighting of continental shapes.

But there's a really awesome, whole novel called Six Moon Dance about a space dragon laying eggs inside a planet while it was forming, and what problems that causes for the inhabitants of said planet later.
