Small Islands to World: S.O.S.
For the first time in human history, the North Pole can be circumnavigated -- the Arctic ice is melting quicker than many anticipated. The devastating effects of climate change are also accelerating sea level rise and small island nations are preparing evacuation plans to guarantee the survival of their populations.
In a week, these small islands are tabling a resolution calling on the UN Security Council to address climate change as a pressing threat to international peace and security.
But the island states' campaign for survival is meeting fierce opposition, so they need our help. Sign the petition now -- it will be presented by the islands' ambassadors at the UN next week.

I have friends from all over. One time I had a student from some little bitty island whose name I didn't even recognize ... turned out it was near India. That was cool.

My family's from Jamaica. Which is not that tiny, and has mountains, but *still*.

I thought maybe Jamaica. I've got at least one other friend of Cuban descent. I can see how island nations would be really concerned about global warming, because:
1) Melting ice --> higher sea levels --> smaller islands.
2) Warmer climate --> worse hurricanes.
3) The island nations aren't the ones causing the problem; they're getting creamed by other people's mistakes. So it's hard for them to solve anything.
Even if your island has mountains, it would suck to have everybody crowded on the tippie tops of them.
*ponder* If sea level rises, will the atmosphere go up with it? That is, will higher ranges become livable? Or are we sawing off the bottom of a relatively inflexible and finite habitat range?
