Flameraven's Art

So flameraven commented on my work and mentioned being an artist, and I thought, "Great, I'll go check this out."  Golly gee whiz wow.

Here's a Tumblr page with samples.  I love the book dragon because, well, books and a dragon.  This forest picture grabbed me for the contrast of red/orange and blue/white, but on closer inspection also has great interest in the swirling critters.  This is the first of several vivid bird pictures that caught my interest, and here is a raven in gears for excellent framing.  This is something like a melange of gears, galaxy, sunset, and aurora.  Space turtle: color contrast, motion, and cool concept.  Check out the curl and flow of this ocean scene.  Cuddlefluff family scene of friends with a map; bonus points for gender balance and diverse personalities.  Different style of art here, more realistic, with a stuffed bird and some paper cranes.  There is quite a bit of variety in art concepts.

flameraven is also illustrating the game Weirspace.  Ah, that's where the space turtles are coming from.  Neato.

I remember reading a fantasy story once about a dragon whose treasure hoard was a library and not gold and jewels. People kept stumbling about looking for the dragon because they wanted to rob it but all they ever found was a library with an elderly librarian guarding it...
:)
I think I've written that as fiction and as poetry. Probably more than once each, it's a lifelong favorite. And of course, I am a dragon and books are my primary hoard.
Mine also!

>> The book dragon was a commission by an author; apparently he is a character in the middle-grade book "Welcome to Mythos." <<

I'm glad that he has a story behind him.

>> Space Turtle actually predates Weirspace; I came up with the first painting back in 2007 and he's pretty much become my mascot. But he will probably be making a cameo in Weirspace eventually. <<

Wow. That is so cool.

>> The tumblr page is my portfolio, but I have quite a bit more art on my deviantart, where the entries usually provide a little more background info on the pieces. <<

I have friended you on DeviantArt. I have a few of my writing pieces up there.

>> There's also this piece of one of my winged characters, which your poems reminded me of. <<

Yay! That's very close to what I'm writing in Fledgling Grace, yes, except that mine also have the tail to go with the wings. If you look under the poems, most have links to the source species of bird(s) featured.

>> I'm so glad to find someone still on livejournal-- I still think LJ has a good platform, but it seems like everyone's defected to Tumblr now. <<

For real conversation, which is what I usually want, I like blogs; that means LiveJournal and Dreamwidth for me. Tumblr has given me great traffic when I've been linked there, but I look at it and it seems optimized for image sharing rather than discussion. That's not most of what I do. I'm on LJ and DW most of the time, posting essays and poetry and links to friends' material.
