Make Your Book Librarian-Friendly

Here are instructions with illustrations on how to make your book easy for a librarian or other archivist to catalog.

I had to laugh.  Apparently I think like a librarian, because when I write back-cover blurbs for my books, I aim to summarize the content so people know what the book is about.  You should be able to glance at any of my books and tell whether it's poetry or nonfiction, its genre(s), etc.  The title page and other technical information are more the publisher's responsibility, but mine have generally done a good job.

It's always annoying to me if a book is not easily discernible from its title, cover, back blurb, and early pages.  A book that annoys me is very unlikely to get sold, or even opened.  I have thousands at home already.  I love books, but I expect a new one to earn its keep.

That can be challenging. Some publishers tag their books, especially cross-genre ones, "Paranormal Romance (file in Romance)" or "Pagan / How To (file in Pagan)" etc.

That sounds like a good career for you.

I think of those categories as being more a matter of marketing than of actual interest audience, especially around the edges.
