Rates of Change

In global warming, not all places are equal. Higher latitudes are impacted sooner and stronger in some ways, as this article explains:

Alaska: Climate-Change Frontier
Moises Velasquez-Manoff, The Christian Science Monitor: "The world is warming. Average global temperatures have increased by 1.36 degrees Fahrenheit since the 19th century, according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. In the past 50 years, the rate of warming has nearly doubled. The warming trend is even more pronounced at high latitudes. Temperatures in Alaska have risen 3.6 degrees F. in the past half-century. The warmer conditions are changing marine and terrestrial ecosystems and forcing human communities to adapt as well."

I'm glad you enjoy my writing.

As for being self-centered ... well, yes, I am. I'm also far more protective of the Earth and inclined to take a wide-scale and long-term perspective than most people. *ponder* Which is about as comforting as me scoring in the mid-60s percentile nationally on math, back when I was testing for college admittance.
