My LiveJournal is...

... obviously inscrutable, because this tool behaved like a quiz usually does: partly right, and a couple things dead wrong.

So, ysabetwordsmith, your LiveJournal reveals...

You are... 1% unique and 31% herdlike (partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy writing). When it comes to friends you are a total whore. In terms of the way you relate to people, you are keen to please. Your writing style (based on a recent public entry) is conventional.

Your overall weirdness is: 28

(The average level of weirdness is: 27.
You are weirder than 64% of other LJers.)

Find out what your weirdness level is!

The total misses: 1) Pleasing people is generally at the bottom of my priorities. It is only on my list of priorities because there are a few people I will sometimes willingly inconvenience myself for the sake of pleasing. 2) I never thought I'd see my writing described as "conventional." I am at a loss to imagine what they're using for comparison. My writing has been known to scare conventional people.

I think "conventional" means "proper grammar and spelling."
Yeah, if you do the one other quiz they have, it will tell you that "conventional" means it can be read by just about anyone. Conventional is a score of 10-20 (whatever that means) and I got 11. I compared someone else whose writing I would consider to be of lower quality and sure enough, she got "simplistic" as her writing style.
By "lower quality" I meant more that she writes like someone younger than her age.
That would make rather more sense.
I had a go and got
You are... 8% unique (blame, for example, your interest in visualbasicforum.com)
That interest is pretty obsolete, haven't been on there for years!

and 8% herdlike (partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy yoga).
I mentioned writing as well, funny I didn't score the same as you for that.

When it comes to friends you are normal. In terms of the way you relate to people, you are keen to please. Your writing style (based on a recent public entry) is intellectual.
Maybe you use short words instead of long ones. So did Hemingway and nobody calls him conventional;-)

Your overall weirdness is: 49

(The average level of weirdness is: 27.
You are weirder than 89% of other LJers.)

Do what? Say what??

I'm sorry, but when I read that pronouncement, I laughed. One of the reasons why I read your journal is because your writing style isn't conventional!
I think the writing style *of this LJ* is conventional -- conventional grammar, conventional use of vocabulary, etc. It's what makes it so very readable!
I should clarify: when I hear the phrase "writing style," I think of how a person puts their own particular spin on language to create meanings and images. To me, this includes things such as use of rhythm and dialog, or how a person describes objects and events. When I hear the phrase "writing mechanics," on the other hand, I think of just what you described above - use of grammar, punctuation, correct spellings of words, and so forth. So that's why I blinked when I saw Ysabet's writing style described as "conventional"; I was working from a different definition of the phrase.

Does that make more sense? :)
I understand -- but the meme is about the LJ not how stories or fiction is written. The meme is only judging the LJ.
Hm I am seeing a dead spot in your self evaluation here, in re: #1.

Because while you personally don't bend to suit others.... this blog exists to promote your writing career. To make money at writing, you have to be able to sell it. You have to have buyers. I have seen you do many many things in this blog demonstrating you want to hear from your audience and I have seen you change or adjust your blogging to reflect your audience's likes and dislikes.

Like --
- running a poetry fishbowl and writing poems based on what prompts people give
- running a poetry fishbowl and asking your audience for input
- creating and using a NEWS icon after asking your audience how we feel about your news posts
- posting more than once the stats on this blog, who posts most often, how many posts you have in various topics, what topics get the most comments, etc

I have been on LJ for 6 years now. I have no idea how many friends I have, how many people read me, who comments the most often, what topics people are most interested in, etc. I truly do not give a shit about it. I've never looked at any of that. i didn't even know you COULD!

So in terms of you vs me, you spend a *lot* of time and effort on your audience here, and you do bend and adjust in response to what pleases your readers. I do zero.

It's not a bad thing or a commentary on you as a person, just on how you run the LJ here.
