Abandoned barn and autumn leaves.

I've always loved the beauty of weathered things.  Back in college, I took a Japanese culture class that included a presentation of wabi-sabi aesthetics.  It made perfect sense to me.  I was basically the only person who got it, other than the professor.  Even the TA said it was esoteric and largely irrelevant.  But I was thrilled to have vocabulary for it.

Mmmmm. Funny, I seem to have acquired a taste for that over the last few years... don't know how or why, though I have my suspicions. The pic is lovely.
It pops up in American aesthetics but more scattered, and called things like "rustic" or "distressed." But I think that most American versions are inferior to Japanese version.
