"Five Things That Fall from the Sky"
When the mad mage's spell takes effect,
it's a surprise, and that's exactly what happens:
the feeling itself leaping through the air
in yellow sparks, like tiny lightning,
shock and bewilderment suddenly everywhere
as emotion becomes part of the climate.
Marjolie and Noreen wish that
they'd been a bit quicker to kill him.
Fear comes next, a visible wind
like the breath of ghosts, wailing
as it plucks at the hairs on the spine.
Marjolie and Noreen cling to each other
so hard that their breasts are mashed flat
and they can feel their hearts hammering.
Thunder and rain, the sound of shouting
and black water falling like small hard fists:
this is anger given form by enchantment.
Marjolie and Noreen fly into a rage,
rail at each other, then go their separate ways.
Sorrow comes, cold and clinging as mist,
everyone mourning the world that was
and will be no more, for what remains
is reft asunder by strange new weather.
Marjolie and Noreen meet again,
damp and forlorn as two drowned rats,
silently swearing to make amends.
Sometimes, when the sun shines,
happiness comes with it in a rain of glitter
as golden and warm as summer light.
Marjolie and Noreen hold hands and dance,
naked, in the joyful precipitation,
fine flakes of euphoria gilding their skin.

Notes:
Read about the seven basic emotions.
This page has lots of information on different weather conditions.

Yay! That's good to hear.
Basically I picked from the list of basic emotions, and I wanted to highlight that even horrible events often have some kind of upside.
>> And the chilling bits, especially *their* reaction to the onset of the spell. <<
Heh. Yeah. Sometimes all you can do is grumble about how you killed the bad guy too late ... or way too slowly.
