Poem: "Traverse and Search"

This poem came out of the July 2, 2013 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired and sponsored by janetmiles.  It belongs to the series Path of the Paladins.  The title comes from a targeting technique varied by width and depth.

Traverse and Search

Alva was not evil,
in the sense that she did not
set about harming other people
for amusement or personal gain.

Yet evil followed her
wherever she went,
wreaking harm and havoc
on whomever happened to be near.

She went to every temple
but none of them could tell her
more than what she already knew:
that she was cursed, that it was unbreakable.

It was the hunters
who gave her the idea,
with their talk of archery techniques,
the art of traversing and searching fire into a flock.

So Alva sought out
the worshippers of Gorrein
and then concealed herself
quietly amongst the camp followers.

If she could not banish evil,
then she could at least aim it
and enjoy the grim satisfaction
of watching Gorrein shoot Himself in the foot.
