Alternative Limbs

I was fascinated by this example of prosthetic artwork.  If someone wants to approach a missing limb as an opportunity to sport some eye-catching personal sculpture, more power to 'em.  Though I will say, most of those still resemble human appendages rather closely.  I don't see anyone wearing, say, a horse leg or a tentacle -- and I know people who would do that.

I think you've heard of the woman with a mermaid-tail prosthetic (I probably heard about her from you) but this made me think of her, so on the off chance you haven't: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/4839818/Disabled-woman-given-mermaid-tail-to-help-her-swim.html . :)
I have seen that, and I think it's awesome.
I think it'd be fun, some day, to see if the human brain could adapt to a prosthetic hand with TWO opposable thumbs.
I'd stop dropping things from the bottom of my hand expecting my sixth digit to catch them, yeah.
