I vote for "Old Adult" fiction. Stories of interest to people growing older or transitioning into Elder roles.

Ooo...

That's a great idea. We have an eldering population in America and very little constructive social discussion of that. I see that this is a popular topic from other people's comments!

As is typical with our culture, there is a hyper-focus on the youth and their needs--even in reading--and not much on the old.

Yes...

... and I have enough carryover from Native American culture that it bugs the living daylights out of me.

That's one reason I like Torn World: The Northern culture has a very strong respect for elders and is, hm, an egalitarian gerontocracy. The Council of Elders, which is composed of old people plus a few socially ept younger folks with disabilities, does most of the decision making. The Southerners are more meritocratic but their system for that shifts much of the responsibility to the most experienced, older practitioners of science and trade.

Elizabeth Moon's Remnant Population is still one of my favorite books.

That was a fantastic story and sadly remains rare.

One of my friends - @dahob - was just asking for Middle Age Fantasy!

Hmm...

By all means, invite them to vote in the poll later, or offer further themes.

Maybe suggest Path of the Paladins, since Shahana is well into middle age and that perspective underlies much of the series. One God's Story of Mid-Life Crisis is worth considering, if you count by life phase instead of chronological age. Hart's Farm covers everything from childhood to elderhood in different poems.

If people like the idea, middle age would nest well with senior age: "mature characters" or something like that.
