Poem: "Boxtoy" - The Wordsmith's Forge
The Writing & Other Projects of Elizabeth Barrette
Poem: "Boxtoy"

This poem is from the December 4, 2012 Poetry Fishbowl.  It was inspired by a prompt from aoife.  It has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette.

NOTE: This poem deals with adult toys and is intended for mature readers.  It is not vulgar but it is very suggestive.  If that's not your thing, or you're not supposed to read such things, no clicky.

Some people say
that it's inappropriate
to call such things "toys" --

that toys are always and only for children
and that nothing having to do with sex
should ever come close to them --

but honestly,
have you looked  at these things?

They're made of soft rubbery stuff
and they come in bright colors
and some of them even
have glitter  inside.

They take batteries.
They buzz and pulse and light up.
There's a white bunny who comes to life
and humps his way clear across the countertop.

What else  would you call something
that you're going to use to play with yourself?

So go on,
put the toy in the box.

*grin* Very nice. As you say, suggestive without being vulgar.

Heh, that's awesome. I got so hung up in the sex is shameful/sex is fun and empowering/oooh I could use this to play to my specific weird hangups deal - not too mention my budget for buying stuff is a touch limited - that I forgot that this stuff is just plain cool.

Thank you!

I'm glad you like it. Yes, it's easy to overlook the genuinely toy-like qualities of adult playthings. But look at a wall of them some time, it's just like a display in a kiddie toy store, all bright colors and excitement.

I think the most far-out ones I have seen were vibrators in the shape of Hello Kitty, Winnie The Pooh, and Cthulhu.

That's funny!: The first time I read this, I didn't even get the last line!

I'm glad you like it.

Yes, the last line has double-jointed entendres.
