ACLU -- How REAL Patriots Act!

I am pleased to discover that patriotism is not entirely dead in America. These folks are lightning-quick on the uptake:

ACLU Will Challenge FISA Bill in Court
Nick Juliano, of Raw Story: "As the Senate voted to endorse a Bush-administration backed plan to expand its surveillance authority and grant retroactive legal immunity to telecommunications companies that facilitated warrantless wiretapping, the American Civil Liberties Union unveiled plans to challenge the new law in court. 'This fight is not over. We intend to challenge this bill as soon as President Bush signs it into law,' said Jameel Jaffer, Director of the ACLU National Security Project."

If you prefer the ACLU-flavored America to the FISA-flavored America, you can cast your folding green vote in favor of privacy here.

The newest 'airport security' is something called a 'backscatter' which is basically a full body x-ray machine. I saw it on the news yesterday. Talk about 'big brother is watching you'... what next??

This has various problems, including that it essentially lets the guards see people naked and that it increases exposure to radiation which is dangerous for some people such as pregnant women.
The news report said that a person could refuse to go through this machine; but what kind of security issues is 'that' action going to flag to already suspicious security guards?

When I traveled in 2000, the security guards refused to hand search my hand luggage, even though I explained to them that it contained religious items that I preferred 'not' be x-rayed. Their nonchalant attitude was, "X-ray it or don't take it, but don't' waste our time."
I'm a card-carrying member of the ACLU America, baby.
