Cybernetic Hate Crime

A man was attacked in a restaurant for wearing cybernetic equipment.  This is not the first such incident I've heard of.  You pretty much can't travel safely in America if you have computer gear attached to your person.  Even medical devices have been used to bar people from airplanes in some cases, let alone other types of adaptive equipment or personal choices.  It's not supposed to happen to handicapped people, but it does; and there don't seem to be protections for anyone else.  Being visibly different is always at least a small risk, but people seem particularly hostile to obviously technological devices.

I see, and in France there's a long-running custom of taking the law into one's own hands, is there? >_>

What I'm curious about is the claim that the glasses are attached to the guy's skull, as the story says. Are they actually wired to his brain in some way?
While traveling in Paris, a group of six French people (3 couples in their 30s) literally pushed past my handicapped friend, almost knocking her down, to take the handicapped seating on the train. We were stuck standing for another 20 minutes.

When they wanted off the train, I stood in the way and shook my head. One of them offered to fight and I smiled and said, "Please."

I stood there smiling and waiting for the first punch while they missed their stop. One asked, "Is she with you?". Another asked, "Are you an American?" I said yes, and yes. They slunk out the other end of the car, clearly terrified.

Still not sure what happened there ...
They've clearly seen American movies and were terrified you'd bust out some mad action moves on them!
