Hard Things

Life is full of things which are hard or tedious or otherwise unpleasant that need doing anyhow. They help make the world go 'round, they improve skills, and they boost your sense of self-respect. But doing them still kinda sucks. It's all the more difficult to do those things when nobody appreciates it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our accomplishments and pat each other on the back.

What are some of the hard things you've done recently?

I swallowed my shame and my pride and went to social services to ask for help finding somewhere adapted for me to live.
I wish you luck with finding a suitable place.
Yesterday, I put out an electrical fire that started in my freezer.

My boys helped, and my special needs daughter followed the fire escape safety plan without prompting, and waited for me at the meet-up point.
You're awesome.

I think people should understand how to fight small fires, so they don't become big fires. This business of training people to be helpless just enrages me. It's not like the fire department is going to give you a free house for letting yours burn down while waiting for them to bring the hose.
* I promptly threw myself through a shower, into clothing and onto BART with very little notice for a temp job.

* I drew a total stranger on the BART between West Oakland and Embarcadero, with pauses to grab onto the railings before I went flying 20' or more. The guy liked the picture!

* I backed away from feelings of suicidal ideation and asked a vague acquaintance if I could talk to them about some of what's going on.
I hope the job interview pans out.
