The History That Isn't Taught

Not the kind I usually point out -- overlooked people like women and queerfolk -- but the kind that is simply ignored as too trivial to mention. How many law enforcement officials there were in a town, who ran the businesses, everyday life challenges that people faced, that sort of thing. There's a brilliant essay about "The History That Isn't Taught" from the author of Thieftaker, an urban fantasy novel set in pre-Revolutionary Boston.

And here I thought I was up to my elbows on the research for The Steamsmith series.
