Poetry Fishbowl: Call for Themes
I've reached the end of scheduled themes for the Poetry Fishbowl project.  It's time to brainstorm some new themes!  These are a few that I've jotted down earlier, ones that I've thought up or people have suggested, to give you an idea what kind of stuff might be suitable:

* colonies & colonialism
* furry
* topian fiction (utopias, dystopias, etc.)
* memory
* where words live (libraries, bookstores, etc.)

What other themes would you like to see me write about?  Suggest them in a comment below this post.

Later on I'll collect the suggestions and post a poll, probably on Monday.  The most popular topics will be added to the schedule for future fishbowls.  You can also help by linking to this post so that more people will see it.  Everyone is welcome to suggest themes.  Everyone will also be able to vote for them later; prompters and donors will get extra votes.

Hmm, let see:

Lost civilizations

Games and toys

archaeological mysteries (à la Peter Kolosimo)

Chryptozoology

Shapeshifters (already done? I don't remember)

Explorers and adventurers

Music

Thank you!

Those are some good themes.

Yes, "shapeshifters" was done for October 13, 2009. Previous themes are listed toward the bottom of the project's landing page:

I originally read that as 'Topiary fiction'...

How about something Transcendental? Poems on the theme of becoming more than what one is. [post-singularity technology, spiritual, magically, whatever.]

Myths updated and modernised.

It's life, but not as we know it..Other forms of life that aren't carbon based.

Thank you!

I have actually written a poem about a sentient plant who was into bonsai.

Your other themes are good!

Seas, oceans, and what lies beneath

Paths and ways

"Optional adventure" might be better as a poem prompt than a theme prompt, but I'll include it here as an option.

Staying near and going beyond

Rights and responsibilities

Thank you!

We've done "oceans and other waters" on December 7, 2010. The others look promising though.

Thank you!

That sounds like fun.

I like the music theme marina_bonomi proposed and was going to suggest musical instruments, myself.

Famous mysteries throughout history (how Stonehenge was built, what really happened to the Lost Colony, etc.)

Influential women and people of color

Fate/destiny (what happens when we follow it, avoid it, try to change it, force it on others, etc.)
ysabetwordsmith From: ysabetwordsmith Date: July 5th, 2012 05:51 pm (UTC) (Link)

Thank you!

I think "musical instruments" reasonably fits under the broader "music."

The others look really good too!

Aquatic environments (especially kelp forests, phocid seals and how they might see the world, and ctenophores)

The Hero Twins or Geser mythology - just stuff that keeps getting embroidered and adapted during the years.

Hmm...

>> Aquatic environments (especially kelp forests, phocid seals and how they might see the world, and ctenophores) <<

We've already done "waters of the world."

>> The Hero Twins or Geser mythology - just stuff that keeps getting embroidered and adapted during the years. <<

This is a little narrower than ideal. What about myth cycles? Hero Twins, Trickster, Arthurian, Robin Hood, Cthulhu ... that could work. What's Geser? That one I don't recognize.

Re: Hmm...

Myth cycles are awesome, and I was actually thinking of the Hero Twins especially 'cause people think that may be some local take on the Popol Vuh which made it that far north. It would be kinda interesting to do something about Cthulhu - the idea that Lovecraft's creation has been co-opted in all these ways HPL never could have intended.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_of_King_Gesar keeps getting embroidered. Central Asian.

Re: Hmm...

Okay, great. I can work with these. If people pick myth cycles as a favorite, definitely prompt me with (an excerpt of) King Gesar.

Things best left forgotten...
All things sky

Alas!

I've already made the poll. But I jotted these down for future reference.
