Beauty Has No Age Limit

The September 3, 2007 issue of TIME magazine has a fascinating ad on the back cover. It is a full-color picture of a nude woman (discreetly posed) of senior age. While she isn't as wrinkled as some old ladies, wrinkled she is; and she's not skinny either, but softly rounded. It's a body that looks lived-in. The ad is for Dove bodycare products ... and it's not about looking young, but about taking care of the body you have. I really like the observation in the text that "beauty has no age limit."

Maybe some people are starting to realize that old women can be strikingly beautiful, in a whole different way than young women can be beautiful. Maybe some people are starting to realize that age, itself, can be prized; that youth isn't the only valuable part of the human life cycle. Okay, so some of us never forgot those things. But we also haven't been the ones putting our principles on the back cover of one of the world's biggest magazines. That someone is putting these ideas in this position is promising.

So in the interest of encouraging a good thing, here's a link to the Dove Pro*Age product page. There are more pictures of beautiful old women there, too.
