More Flooding

Flooding continues throughout much of the Midwest. Agricultural news reports crop losses already from fields too wet to plant or plants killed by flooding. Here's another article on the topic:

500-Year Flood Submerges Iowa
http://www.truthout.org/article/500-year-flood-submerges-iowa
According to the Environment News Service, "'Nearly one-third of Iowa is
already submerged and water levels continue to rise,' said US Senator
Chuck Grassley of Iowa, urging federal financial assistance for his state.
Waters are still rising in many parts of the state and the president
responded."

Yeah, I'd expect a rise in aquatic-facilitated maladies. Also bear in mind that several cities have less access to treated water right now.

I agree that the terminology ignores new trends. I wasn't surprised by this summer's nasty floods in my area: we've had several summer floods in previous years. The first was an appalling shock. At this point, it still feels deeply wrong, but it's no longer shocking. I am disturbingly reminded that my part of central Illinois is reclaimed swamp land, though: what used to be called "slough," or prairie swamp.

I look forward to seeing that, when you-two get it reconstructed. He's a good writer.
How are YOU, though. I have been thinking about you. There are floods in IL, are there not?
There are floods in Illinois, yes. In my area the water has gone down, and we personally suffered no more than minor inconvenience due to blocked roads. But there were places near here where whole trees were snapped off at the trunk from the storms, and the fields have large patches of dead or stunted crops from the flooding. My people have been lucky, for which I am deeply grateful.

Thanks for thinking of us.
You are welcome. I am glad you are ok.

I just saw a very sad news report about a family farmer who lost most of his pigs in the flood in Iowa.
