Further Discussion of AP Nonsense

Jason Pitzl-Waters has a thoughtful and sharp essay about the Associated Press attempt to destroy Fair Use. It turns out that AP wants bloggers to pay for quoted material.

I hope people sue their pants, boxers, and socks off.

...pay?

Dear lords, imagine academia if people had to suddenly pay for quoting someone.

...That may be a good idea, actually.
They don't mean everyone should be paid for being quoted, only AP should be paid by people quoting AP articles. Apparently the contracts start at about 5 words.

Bite my shiny metal ass. That's 5 words.
Oh, the academia was completely separate.

I was just pointing out a parallel. Quoting is how you get people to look at other sources and is how you bolster your own argument.

AP is just being stupid. Just finished Mumia Abu-Jamal's Death Blossoms in which he points out quite astutely that the press has become big business and therefore could never be objective (which he says is impossible anyway).
